At Brisbon Automotive, we specialize in the “intermediate” repairs that dealerships often overcharge for, from steering column quirks to fuel system maintenance.
Sonata & Elantra
These sedans are packed with technology, but they do have a few common “bread and butter” mechanical issues:
- Steering Column “Clunk”: If you hear a clicking or clunking sound when you turn your steering wheel, it is almost certainly a worn MDPS (Motor Driven Power Steering) coupler. This small rubber part eventually disintegrates. We can replace just the coupler without needing to replace the entire expensive steering column.
- ABS Module Maintenance: Many Sonatas and Elantras are prone to internal shorts in the ABS module, which can cause battery drain or warning lights. We perform targeted diagnostics to see if the module needs a simple fused lead update or a full unit replacement.
- GDI Carbon Cleaning: Hyundai’s Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines are efficient, but they tend to build up carbon on the intake valves. If your car feels sluggish or is idling roughly, a professional carbon cleaning can restore your MPG and “pep.”
Tucson, Santa Fe, & Palisade
Hyundai’s SUV lineup is built for families, meaning they see a lot of stop-and-go traffic and heavy loads.
- Excessive Oil Consumption: Some Hyundai engines (particularly the 2.4L and 2.0L) begin to burn oil more quickly as they age. We offer oil consumption testing and specialized valve seal/piston ring inspections to keep your engine healthy without needing a full replacement.
- Rear Suspension & Shocks: The larger SUVs like the Palisade and Santa Fe can experience premature wear on the rear struts, especially models with “self-leveling” suspension. If your ride feels bouncy or you see fluid leaking from the wheel well, we can swap these for high-quality replacements.
- AWD Coupler Service: If you have an AWD model and feel a “shudder” or “binding” when turning into a parking spot, your AWD coupler may need service or a fluid exchange.
Kona & Ioniq
- 12V Battery & Charging Issues: Even the hybrid and electric Ioniqs rely on a standard 12V battery for electronics. We see many “ghost” dashboard lights that are solved by simply testing and replacing a weak auxiliary battery.
- EVAP Purge Valve: Does your Hyundai struggle to start only after you’ve just filled it up at the gas station? That’s a classic sign of a stuck EVAP Purge Valve. It’s a fast, affordable repair that fixes a very annoying problem.

Had an annoying squeak coming from my front suspension after having some work done at another mechanic. Told them about the squeak and they didn't find the issue. Took it to another mechanic and he also could not source it. Brought it to Brisbon Auto to get worked on and they were able to identify the issue and returned the car to me promptly, AT NO CHARGE. It was apparently a very easy repair, but took a trained eye to identify. Very grateful for Matt and Doc at Brisbon Auto for the work they did on my RAV4. Highly recommend.

If I could leave more stars I would ! The customer service was superb here. They were very responsive every step of the way. They also did very good work. My truck had that common roller lifter and camshaft ticker issue and these guys got in there and rebuilt it perfectly. If there was any other damages or problems seen they were sure to let me know.
The prices made perfect since after seeing the amount of professionalism and detail they put into their work.
We were also dealing with a very difficult warranty company and they still seemed to show a high level of professionalism and got everything done.
I would recommend these guys any day ! Thanks for the patience as well as making my truck healthy again !
